FAQs

Where do you provide the Orton-Gillingham sessions?

Most of our students attend private schools in the Charleston area where there may not be enough resources for support in-house. As permitted by the school, we travel to the student during the school day to provide this specialized instruction. In the summer time, we travel to your home for ongoing sessions.

How long are the tutoring sessions?

Sessions are 45-60 minutes long depending on your child’s needs and ability. We see students a minimum of 2x a week and up to 4x a week Monday - Thursday.

What age students do you work with?

At this time, we support students in 4K through 4th grade.

Do you work with students who do not have a learning difference like dyslexia or dysgraphia but simply need extra help?

Our primary focus is serving students with dyslexia and dysgraphia which is why we are able to come into the school to provide this instruction. We may have space to work with younger students (grades K-1) not yet diagnosed but perhaps referred by a teacher for specialized reading/writing intervention. It is a case by case situation.

Do you help with homework?

No. We offer specialized instruction based on specific learning needs of your child with a focus on reading and writing.

Do you give homework?

We provide additional outlets for independent practice which is highly encourage for the best results. We may give weekly handwriting, cursive or keyboarding homework and require ongoing practice of irregular words for spelling and reading. We also provide your child with decodable stories to read frequently throughout the week to promote fluency.

Do you provide distance learning?

Yes. We provide distance learning on an as needed basis perhaps during vacation. Our first preference is always in person, but our virtual sessions are very interactive and in some cases more effective for certain learners.

We have a wide range of schools in Charleston listed on our website under School Search Made Simple, including some charter schools.
